Cincinnati Window Décor

The company was founded in 1934, as Cincinnati Window Shade, Inc. Cincinnati Window Shade Inc., the parent company of Cincinnati Window Décor is still in operation today operating several commercial, wholesale and retail entities under the parent corporation. The company has always been a family owned and operated organization. The original founding family was the Rodenberg family. The original site was 17 East Eighth Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Cincinnati Window Shade, Inc. was purchased by Tom Oyler, one of the sons of the Oyler family, of the well known Parchman & Oyler Realty. Tom Oyler and his family ran the business for 11 years providing custom window treatments to the community.

In 1994, Cincinnati Window Shade, Inc. was purchased by Jim & Janet Frederick. We were still located on Eighth Street, downtown and still going strong. Jim & Janet Frederick had a long history in this business starting in the seventies when Jim, Janet and a partner purchased Cincinnati Venetian Blind Laundry, a company that cleaned the old fashioned 2" venetian blinds. While working nights at Avon as a Processing Manger, Jim would sell the services to the public and to businesses in the daytime. Jim's partner ran the cleaning production side of the business. In their travels they found another company for sale. Handy Window Shade, located on Ninth Street, in downtown Cincinnati. The two partners purchased this company and both took up full time employment, selling the services of Cincinnati Venetian Blind Laundry and the products of Handy Window Shade.

This was a great time in the history of window treatments. The Lorentz brothers had a new invention. They were setting up wholesale distributors of a new product called a Levolor Rivera 1" Mini Blind.

The business emerged as the leading provider of  window treatments in the area.  They quickly organized a new company called MFM, Meeker, Frederick and Meckstroth. This organization began wholesale distribution of the Riviera Mini Blind. MFM wholesaled a variety of other window covering products to other window treatment companies in the Midwest region.

Over time the partners went on to pursue other opportunities. Jim moved into the textile industry for awhile. Then, he moved into the commercial end of window treatments. He worked as the General Manager of a commercial window covering company in St. Louis, MO. At about this time, an opportunity arose to purchase Cincinnati Window Shade, Inc. Jim and Janet moved back to Cincinnati. Janet used her past experience in office management to run the office of Cincinnati Window Shade. Jim began adding personnel and additional product lines to the organization. Commercial sales became a new focus. After 62 years, the company outgrew the downtown location.

A suitable new location was found in Norwood, OH. Formerly, the location of Federal Express, with good visibility to interstate 71, Norwood became the new home of Cincinnati Window Shade, Inc. A new location found us questioning the company name as being to limiting. Some customers believed that all we did was sell window shades; Instead of being a full line dealer and fabricator of multiple window covering products. Cincinnati Window Shade, Inc. introduced its new persona in Cincinnati Window Décor in 1996.

Cincinnati Window Décor became the new name of our residential business. The company distributes all major brands of window treatments including: draperies, bedspreads, pillows, cushions, dust ruffles, valances, cornices, lambrequins, shower curtains, roman shades, roller shades, solar shades, mini – blinds, venetian blinds, vinyl 1" & 2" blinds, wood blinds, faux wood blinds, vertical blinds, cellular shades, pleated shades, shutters, outdoor insect screens, hurricane shutters and last but not least, most of these can be motorized and integrated into home automation systems.
